We love the idea of certainty.

We want five-year plans, clear directions, and neatly labeled destinations. We want to know that the time we’re investing today will lead somewhere meaningful tomorrow.

But creativity rarely works that way.

Some of the most important chapters of an artist’s life begin with a simple curiosity. A camera picked up on a whim. A notebook filled with thoughts no one was meant to read. A project that starts without a purpose beyond, I can’t stop thinking about this.

The problem is that we’re often too eager to know where something is going before we’ve given it a chance to become anything at all.

We want guarantees.

Yet most creative journeys are built on uncertainty.

The photographers whose work we admire didn’t always know what their style would become. The writers we quote didn’t always know which stories would resonate. The artists we look up to were once simply people following a feeling without a map.

There’s something beautiful about that.

Not knowing forces us to pay attention. It invites us to experiment. It keeps us open to possibilities we would have missed if we’d been too focused on reaching a predetermined destination.

Film photography is a reminder of this.

You press the shutter without seeing the final image. You trust your eye. You trust the moment. You accept that some frames will surprise you and others won’t work at all. But that’s part of the process. The uncertainty isn’t a flaw—it’s the point.

Life as a creative is often the same.

The project you’re working on today may not become what you expected. It may become something better. Or it may quietly teach you a lesson that leads to the next thing.

Not every path needs to make sense immediately.

Not every idea needs a business plan.

Not every passion needs a destination.

Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is follow your curiosity and see where it leads.

Because art has a way of revealing itself slowly.

Frame by frame.

Layer by layer.

Until one day you look back and realize that what felt like wandering was actually becoming.
