Rooted in film photography and artist culture, it’s a place to explore, preserve, and express without the pressure to perform.
This isn’t a brand to follow—it’s a space to grow and unwind.
As a creative, I find myself in spaces and galaxies within my own head. When I first envisioned Filmy, I was 16. A proud outcast, I dreamt of spaces and opportunities that aligned with who I was and film photography unknowingly became that outlet for me.
Growing up in a small rural town in the heart of Central Virginia, there was no room for the peculiar. What I saw as visionary, others saw as unordinary.
Needless to say, I didn’t “belong.” But I had a mother who instilled in me the power and grace of individuality. Her belief in me allowed me to stand firm and confident in who I was. Because of her, I remained brave and rooted in who God created me to be.
Filmy Lou’s been a slow burn.

Still, I chose to stand my ground continuing to excel as myself and only myself. Even then, I knew: The price of individuality is far less than the cost of losing it. I willingly handed over my allowance to film cameras, for the sake of documenting the cause. I was conscious.
I wore what felt true to me. I connected with others who stayed rooted in themselves and believed in the impact of both art and self-expression on our souls.
I was Black, gifted, idealistic, and kind in a cruel world. The odds were never in my favor.
I wanted a place for us...
A community and kin-space for my fellow outcasts telling our stories and preserving our artistic culture through film. A safe spot for all of us who’ve been told we’re too much, and yet somehow, not enough.
The quiet innovators.
The meek leaders.
The slow creators.
I created Filmy Lou for us. The conscious artists of today and the future. Wild and free. Documenting and preserving life as we experience it.
Welcome to Filmy Lou.
We’re so glad you’re here.
