The phrase romanticize your life has become a trend.

It’s often accompanied by perfectly styled coffee cups, golden-hour walks, fresh flowers, and beautiful apartments bathed in natural light. While there’s nothing wrong with any of those things, I’ve always felt that the real meaning gets lost somewhere along the way.

Romanticizing your life isn’t about making it look beautiful.

It’s about learning how to notice beauty.

The distinction matters.

Anyone can curate an image. Anyone can arrange a scene. But seeing beauty in your actual life—the life that’s messy, unfinished, and imperfect—is a much more difficult art.

It’s finding comfort in the ritual of making tea on a rainy afternoon.

It’s noticing how sunlight lands on your bedroom floor for ten minutes each morning.

It’s remembering to look up during your commute.

It’s allowing ordinary moments to be enough.

Film photography taught me this.

When every frame matters, you stop waiting for extraordinary moments. You begin paying attention to what already exists. A stranger reading by a window. A friend adjusting their jacket. A quiet street after the rain.

Nothing dramatic.

Nothing worthy of a headline.

Yet somehow, everything worth remembering.

The truth is that most of our lives are made up of these small moments. Not the milestones. Not the achievements. Not the highlights we post online.

The ordinary days.

The in-between days.

The days that seem insignificant until years later when they’re the ones you miss the most.

Maybe romanticizing your life is simply refusing to rush through it.
